True to its name, Countryball is a game that offers a lot of fun and entertainment to its players. The game's concept is quite straightforward. Each country is represented by a special symbol that embodies the most notable characteristics of its people. For instance, China is symbolized by a football wearing a conical hat. However, for countries with similar human characteristics, the game simply uses the national flag on the symbolic balls. The gameplay is easy to understand, yet it requires players to engage in strategic thinking. While the game starts off easy and players can quickly get accustomed to it, it becomes more challenging as they progress and attempt to conquer all countries worldwide.
The core mechanism of this game is simple yet highly engaging. The primary task is to control your soldiers and move them to neighboring countries for invasion. An invasion is successful when your troops outnumber the enemy's, allowing you to take over their base and increase your total troop count. This aspect has sparked some controversy among players, as the ease of invading well-known countries can be seen as offensive or disrespectful.
The game's ultimate goal is to defeat and occupy other countries, thereby increasing your military strength. With each successful occupation, your strength grows, combining your forces with those of the conquered country. For example, if you use 100 soldiers to conquer a country defended by 50 soldiers, your total strength becomes 150.
Conquering countries helps in gaining strength, but the game's objective goes beyond that. While early levels are relatively easy, advancing in the game requires more sophisticated tactics to invade multiple countries. Strategic planning is necessary to decide which countries to invade first to increase strength and expand power efficiently.
This game feature is one of my favorites. Controlling your army involves pressing and holding the target location to send troops for invasion, then waiting for your forces to take over. As someone who enjoys math, I appreciate the game's requirement to calculate troop allocation for both offense and defense in case of enemy attacks.
