KOF '99 ACA NEOGEO

In the latest installment of The King of Fighters (KOF), teams now consist of four players instead of the traditional three-character teams. Before each match, players choose three characters to fight with, while the fourth member acts as the Striker. The Striker can be called upon during battle to assist by executing a Special Move against the opponent. The number of times a Striker can be summoned in a match is limited, determined by the "Strike Bombs" displayed at the bottom of the screen.

The Advanced and Extra combat styles from The King of Fighters '98 have been removed. The game now features a single playstyle modeled after the Advanced mode from the previous game. Players fill their power bar by attacking opponents or performing special actions. Depending on the button combination used, players can choose between two enhanced states during combat.

Counter Mode increases the player's offensive capabilities and allows unlimited use of the character's Super Special Move. Players can also perform a "Super Cancellation Attack" or a "Moving Attack" to transition from a Special Move to a Super Special Move within a combo. Armor Mode, the other enhanced state, boosts the character's defensive abilities, allowing them to withstand more damage from opponents, but Super Special Moves cannot be used in Armor Mode.

After combat concludes, players receive a score based on their performance. Achieving a high score in arcade mode rewards players with an additional fight following the final boss. The updated version, The King of Fighters: Evolution, introduces three new stages and two new characters available only as Strikers.

The new Strikers include Kyo Kusanagi (in an alternate outfit), Athena Asamiya (in her school uniform), Goro Daimon, Billy Kane, Ryuji Yamazaki, Chizuru Kagura, Syo Kirishima, Alfred Airhawk, Vanessa, Seth, Fiolina Germi, and Gai Tendo. The game is also compatible with the Neo Geo Pocket Color game The King of Fighters: Battle de Paradise. Points accumulated in Battle de Paradise can be transferred to The King of Fighters '99: Evolution to expedite the leveling up of Extra Strikers.
